Stellenbosch Vineyards Credo Shiraz 2018 has been awarded a Platinum Medal at the 2021 Michelangelo Wine Awards, making it one of the top 14 wines to receive this award globally. This same vintage was placed in the Shiraz SA Top 12 earlier this year.

According to the Michelangelo judging panel, wines needed 96 points or higher to receive this level of excellence and  this year, the 14 Platinum recognised wines fall within the op 0.75% of the total 2021 entries. “It has been an outstanding year for the 2018 vintage of Credo Shiraz, and this wine keeps improving as time goes by, which is a great testimony to the quality of our Credo range,” shares winemaker Bernard Claassen.

The grapes used to create this wine were handpicked late during the 2018 harvest season, crushed, cold fermented, and then aged in French oak barrels for 20 months. “This winemaking process results in wines with excellent structure and fine tannins. The wine has the spicy aromas typically associated with a Shiraz, complimented by hints of ripe mulberries liquorice and coconut,” explains Bernard. 

Stellenbosch Vineyards also received three Gold medals for the Stellenbosch Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc 2021 and Arniston Bay Fairtrade Rose 2021 and Shiraz 2020. The newly launched Arniston Bay Fairtrade range is inspired by the charming fishing village on the Southern point of Southern Africa, Arniston. “These two Gold medals are a reflection of the outstanding quality of wine that we can be produced from Fairtrade and coastal vineyards,” proudly exclaims Arniston Bay winemaker Abraham de Villiers.
