Arniston Bay Wines adopts penguins on World Penguin Day
Arniston Bay is proud to uphold the highest social and environmental responsibility standards through globally recognised certifications and community upliftment. Since the relaunch in 2021, Arniston Bay has partnered with SANCCOB (South African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds) to assist in their fight towards the conservation of coastal seabirds, with a particular focus on our beloved African penguin.
In support of World Penguin Day on 25 April 2022, Arniston Bay adopted eight penguins through SANCCOB’s penguin adoption programme. The SANCCOB team rescues abandoned penguins which are rehabilitated and then released back into the wild by their dedicated staff. The Arniston Bay team selected customers to join our project and tasked them with them with naming their newly adopted penguins. The dedication, creativity and motivation behind each name truly showed the commitment of each customer to the adoption project.
Arniston Bay happily introduces Frosty and Wobbles (Deepcatch Holdings), Paavo (VCT Finland), Dory & Voyager (John Dory’s), Arnie (Arniston Spa Hotel), Oreo (Slug & Lettuce Restaurant Paarl) and Percy (Stellenbosch Vineyards).
In addition to penguin conservation, Arniston Bay also values and contributes to various social certifications and projects. Through our Fairtrade certification, a contribution is made to farmworker community projects such as education and healthcare facilities. Furthermore, Arniston Bay has contributed more than R1.5 million to bursaries through the Arniston Community Trust, allowing more than 40 talented youth from the fishing communities surrounding Arniston to attain tertiary qualifications. The range of wines is also certified by the Vegan Society and IPW, ensuring that environmentally sustainable practices are followed.
About Arniston Bay Wines:
Established in 1996, the Arniston Bay wine range was inspired by the charm and breath-taking beauty of the historic Arniston fishing village on the Southern tip of Africa. The Arniston Bay range of Fairtrade certified wines harness the freshness and world-class quality of wines produced from Coastal vineyards.
About SANCCOB (South African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds):
SANCCOB is a registered non-profit organisation (NPO 003-134) whose primary objective is to reverse the decline of seabird populations through the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of ill, injured, abandoned, and oiled seabirds – especially endangered species like the African penguin.
